[Recap]

30 XP for killing wolves

[Long Rest]

CONST check to see how hungover everyone is = Getty & Goj are pretty hungover

Everyone crashed last night in the loft above the stable, drinking and partying with the crew. Ayla and Ignatia are up first, and then Goj and Getty follow. All of Bort’s caravan crew are still asleep, rather hungover themselves from the cheap turnip wine that is available in Etran’s Folly.

Goj & Ignatia decide to investigate the caravan. Nobody else is around or awake for the moment.

Goj investigates Bort’s wagon first. Bort’s wagon is packed to the brim with miscellaneous items. There are many papers, journals, and log books. Lots of shelves with small compartments and small jars of things all of the wagon. You see some strange things, such as a mummified bears claw, things floating in jars of oil, crystals, etc. etc.. Goj is unfortunately too hungover to find anything of relevance in the wagon. Goj exits the wagon a little frustrated.

Ignatia goes in for a look herself, and she manages to locate a log book with entries for every transaction that Bort has done in the last few years. You notice that for about 5 years, he’s been coming to Etran’s Folly and making deliveries of “Reagents” and the recipient is not written down.

Ayla takes a look at Cooky’s wagon, as she pulls back the curtain in the wagon she sees that Cooky is asleep in the wagon.

Everyone decides to head towards the tavern. As they head out to the street, they can see Flonk the Bard chilling on the plaguestone. He’s playing terrible music again. He is hungover now and he is trying to sing a song about turnips and he can’t think of a word that rhymes with turnips.

Getty (to Flonk): Hey you boy! Shut up and tell me about what happened last night! What do you know?
Flonk: Hey Hey… easy! I don’t know man! Between all the barfights here I kind of loose track of who did what to whom.
Getty: do you know about any witches in town?
Flonk: Witches?! I mean, you pretty much saw everyone that lives here last night. I don’t think there are any witches anymore. But about 20 years ago there was a woman named Silwyth who was accused of being a witch, but nobody has seen her since back then. She was outcast with her Daughter Vilree.
Getty: where did she live?
Flonk: I don’t know….
Getty: who might know more about her?
Flonk: Well you might ask Targen, he’s a bit older but he’s probably the only person that remembers really clearly the events that took place back then.
Getty: where would I find him?
Flonk: Well he’s right here in the Feedmill in the main house. Just go into the tavern and see if you can find Delma, she’ll get him for you.
Getty: Ok...what’s up with sir lawren krent?
Flonk: Oh nothing he’s just a town drunk, don’t worry about him.
Flonk: do you guys have any cool instruments you might want to sell?
Getty: Do you have any money?
Flonk: I might have a gold or so to spare if you have a nice lute or something...
Getty: If you give me a gold, I will bring you 2 lutes in a months time
Persuasion Check: fail
Flonk: NOPE! sorry I’ve been swindled before!!!
Getty: look my friends are getting restless and they want to tell this place apart, so if you know anything else.. Just tell me now and I can talk them down.
Flonk: What are you guys hoping to find exactly? There’s nothing to this town, there’s nothing really going on here.

Goj and Ayla propose taking Flonk as a hostage, Getty agrees, but Ignatia proposes that they follow up the lead that Flonk gave to them of Targen Fulst. The team decides to go into the tavern to ask Delma for Targen. There is a brief kerfuffle about who is babysitting who, and Ayla and Ignatia decide to enter the tavern together to talk to Delma.

Delma, Kolnral and Amora are in there cleaning up from the fight last night. As the party enters. Delma says:

Delma: Sorry the tavern’s closed until we figure out exactly what went wrong here and how Bort was killed.
Ignatia: We are looking for Delma
Delma: That would be me! Pleased to meet ya!
Ignatia: do you run this establishment?
Delma: I do indeed! Yep!
Ignatia: Would you give us the honor of sitting down with a cup of coffee and discussing more about what happened last night?
Delma: honestly, we are, right now, trying to figure out how one of our patrons got poisoned in our establishment. Until we figure that out, I don’t want to serve any drinks or food to anyone. I’m happy to talk to you but unfortunately I can’t offer you any coffee.
Ignatia: Can you tell me more about this Phinnick character, it seems odd to have a goblin serving in a human establishment, especially one that isn’t very acclimated to people.
Delma: Yeah, honestly he doesn’t really do a great job here anyway.. But he gets a lot of bullying from people in town, people are still bitter about goblins from the Goblinblood Wars back in the day so he faces a lot of prejudice and he gets mistreated by everyone, so I gave him an opportunity here to serve tables and stuff, but yeah he’s fairly unreliable, he doesn’t show for work sometimes, and he sleeps in different random houses. Probably all of this though is to avoid confrontation, he is a very submissive person.
Ignatia: you seem well established in this town, is your partner also a successful business person?
Delma: hmmm.. Maybe you are thinking of my father Targen?
Ignatia: oh.. Uhh yes!
Delma: Well Targen is a little bit too frail to get anything done these days, but he is still technically the Mayor here in Etran’s Folly, although honestly I mostly run things on the day-today. Well… If you all would like to do me a favor, you could help me by taking him around today and keeping an eye on him while I work on getting the tavern back in order. Normally I take care of him during the day. Also, since technically you guys were only supposed to be staying in the lofts for 1 night, so technically your stay in the lofts for the coming days in not yet paid for, but I could consider our debt settled if you just take care of him during the day for me. What do you think?
Ignatia: Yes that sounds good, that’s why I have Ayla here as she is strong enough to help with sitting and standing.
Delma: Great! Let me introduce you! Follow me!

Delma leads Ignatia and Ayla through the door on the north side of the room into a living room where Targen is sitting. Targen is old, thin, and weak looking. Bright white hair, a sheen of cataract on his eyes.

Delma: Father this is….
Ignatia: Ignatia and Ayla
Delma: yes.. And they have agreed to take you around today while I manage the situation in the tavern. Does that sound good?
Targen: ehhhhh……
Targen: Well… what do you guys do?
(Ignatia looks to Ayla)
Ayla: I’m avenging the death of my tribe
Targen: oh yeah…. That sounds exhausting!
(Delma sneaks out)
Targen: Tell you what, can we go out for my daily stroll? I’m feeling cooped up here.
(Targen directs Ayla to wheel him out the front door into the plaguestone courtyard)

Targen: Say.. do you want a quick tour of Etran’s folly?
Ignatia: that sounds great!
Targen: Well there isn’t too terribly much to see around here, but I’ll show you what we have.
(Targen directs them south down the main road towards Etran’s here)
(goj and Getty hang back, but follow them)

The south end of Etrans’ Folly looks much nicer than the North end. There seems to be houses that are actually lived in and active working farms. As the group strolls down the road, Targen launches into a brief history of Etran’s folly.

Targen first mentions the Feedmill (the building you had left). He mentions how he opened the Feedmill more than 50 years ago, before the Goblinblood Wars. His brother died in that conflict, along with much of Targen’s extended family, although the town itself avoided the worst of that conflict. The plague, after the war, hit the town so hard though, and that’s what really devastated the town. Targen mentions the plaguestone, which was used to give food and aid to those suffering from the plague. He recounts how everyone suspected a local witch named Silwyth of starting the plague, but after Silwyth caught the plague herself she cursed the town’s local priest and eventually died of the plague. Targen mentions that Silwyth had a daughter named Vilree who stuck around in her mother’s home for a few years before disappearing. Perhaps Vilree either died of the plague or ran off and left town.

As you stroll south down the road, Targen is pointing out different houses and telling the group “oh [X person] used to live here but they died” or “[X person] still lives here”

Ignatia: “Which house was Silwyth & Vilree’s?”
Targen: “The house that they used to live in is currently occupied by my niece Lydia. We can head up there to check it out if you want… it’s up on the North side of town.

Targen continues the tour, identifying Etran’s Hill, and telling the story about how the town got it’s name. Etran Bolomere, the founder of the town, wanted to have his house high on the hill but it was too far from the river and it could not be saved. Hence “Etran’s Folly”.

You pass by more farms, and pass a lot of the peoples homes that were in the tavern last night.
You pass the old shrine, Targen mentions Father Bolgrist and how he died of the plague.

Finally you get the old house of Vilree, currently occupied by Targen’s Niece, Lydia Fulst. She’s honestly a bit of a troublemaker.

Ignatia: “Well we should probably make sure you get a bathroom break before we have to head back, let’s knock on the door and ask to use the restroom.”
Persuasion check: 8 - flumps!
Targen: “Nah, I would like to get back home honestly”

Ignatia uses message to send to Goj: “that house is where the witch used to live, but his niece lives there now, but she’s kind of a troublemaker”

Party Split = Ayla+Chester Ignatia take Targen back to the feedmill, Getty and Goj go investigate the house
Party Split again = Ignatia message to Ayla to go check the house.

Getty and Goj approach the front door, which seems to be locked.
Getty and Goj sneak around the back side of the house, they see a door that has been smashed in and they hear a ruckus inside.

Goj: Let’s sneak inside!
Getty: Let’s split the treasure we find 50/50
Stealth Check: 16+19 success!

A giant messed up looking bear (Ponderosa) is eating at a limp body!!
Before being noticed by the bear, Goj notches an arrow and gets one off on the bear.
14 to hit, 7 piercing damage + 1d6 sneak attack damage: 1 damage = 8 total
(24-8=16)

(End session….)
